Training for 5K Day 2

I wrote yesterday about my attempt to train for a 5K. I though that because I walk like a crazy woman, running would be easy, simple, and fun. Wrong, wrong, and WRONG. :-) I had lofty dreams of running 2 miles with my husband on our first time out. BIG mistake.

Yesterday afternoon we tried again. This time we came much more prepared. I downloaded a podcast that tells you to run for 60 seconds and then walk for 90 seconds. While this wasn't easy, it was much easier than my original plan of running 1/2 mile and walking 1 mile... We weren't quite ready for that!

While the new plan was difficult, we did it! We went about 2 miles, which is a huge accomplishment for us. When we were first married (last July) my husband wouldn't even go one mile with me. Walk/running 2 miles is incredible!

We will probably continue with the week 1 podcasts for another week or so, but hopefully we'll be well on our way to running a 5K in the next couple of weeks!

Anyone else out there training for a 5K in the midst of training for 60 miles? I'd love to hear your stories and inspiration!

I just started the Couch to 5K this week as well. I've been running off and on for the last year and a half, so this first week of intervals hasn't been too bad. I want to be able to run all of the Race for the Cure here in Atlanta in May, so that's my running goal.

Because of the weather, I've had to do my runs & training walks on the same days. I've found that even though I'm a little tired after I walk, my muscles are so warm that the running part is pretty easy. I actually have more energy at the end of my runs than at the beginning!

Good luck with your training! I'm glad I'm not the only person crazy enough to try to do both at the same time!
